Thunderstorms Halt Play at Irish Creek Collegiate; Tournament To Conclude Sunday

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – Thunderstorms prevented the conclusion of the second round Saturday at the Irish Creek Collegiate Golf Tournament presented by Carolinas Medical Center – NorthEast and hosted by Charlotte and Davidson in conjunction with the Charlotte Regional Sports Commission at The Club at Irish Creek.
The second round is scheduled to resume at 8:15 a.m. with approximately four holes remaining. After a 45-minute break to re-hole the course for the final round, play will resume with a shotgun start.
Davidson struggled in the first round with a 21-over-par 305 to place last in the 13-team field. However, the latest unofficial scores in the second round had the Wildcats at four-under par for the round and up to 10th place at 17-over par, ahead of VCU (+23), Francis Marion (+26) and Mercer (+30).
No. 21 Duke led the tournament after the first round with a 276 at eight-under par. Defending tournament champion Charlotte was seventh at 293. The unofficial second round results have No. 28 Wake Forest ahead at 12-under par, while Duke remained at eight-under.
Matt Nagy of No. 50 Kennesaw State led individually after the first round with a four-under par 67.
Senior Bobby Urso led Davidson on the par-71, 7099-yard, Davis Love III designed course in the first round with a 75, four-over par. Classmate Christopher Rollins fired a three-over 74 competing individually. John Skeadas fired a 76, Jackson Taylor and Sam Echikson fired 77's, while Richard Fountain concluded the round at 78.
