DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women's tennis team returned to the courts for the first time since Feb. 20 and were on the wrong end of two 7-0 defeats, including dropping their Southern Conference-opening match vs. Georgia Southern on Saturday afternoon at the Covington Tennis Courts.
The Wildcats (4-9, 0-1 SoCon) closed out the doubleheader day with a setback to Evansville (7-4), the first time both teams had faced each other.
The lone win for Davidson vs. the Eagles (5-5, 1-0 SoCon) in the first match came from the No. 2 doubles team of Alison Rauh and Brites Moniz-Soares. The duo earned their fifth win together on the season when they scored an 8-6 win.
GSU swept all six singles spots with Katherine Dicconson being the closest to scoring a win for the 'Cats. She battled Alessandra Dzuba at No. 6 to a 7-5, 6-3 defeat.
The second match vs. Evansville saw the Purple Aces sweep through all three doubles spots and then take all six singles position, allowing no more than two games in each set in five of the six matches.
Freshman Frizzi Bschorer, at No. 4, forced a third set when she earned a 6-3 win in the second set, but fell, 6-2, in the final set of the match to Pin Sorensen to give the Aces the 7-0 win.
