Seven Commit to Davidson Women’s Lacrosse For 2012 Campaign

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson College women's lacrosse head coach Kim Wayne has announced the admittance of seven recruits to the class of 2015 today as the newcomers will join the program for the 2012 season.

 The incoming class is comprised of four midfielders, one defender, one attacker and a goalkeeper who hail from six different states. The future Wildcats are Diane Girling (Lynchburg, Va.), Catherine Schmidt (Brightwaters, N.Y.), Katy Boyle (Sudbury, Mass.), Mary Leonard (Hendersonville, Tenn.), Emily Cooke (Woodstock, Md.), Sarah Duncan (Houston, Texas) and Emily Rademacher (Lynchburg, Va.).

“I am thrilled these seven student-athletes have committed to attending Davidson in the fall of 2011,” said Wayne, who will be entering her third year with the Wildcats. “Overall this group exhibits a great mix of speed and strength combined with outstanding work ethic and a competitive drive. I'm excited to welcome them to the Wildcat Family!”

Girling, a defensive midfielder out of Lynchburg, Va., is one of four midfielders joining the program in the fall of 2011. A member of the XTeam club program, Girling is also a three-sport athlete in field hockey, indoor track and lacrosse. She was named 2009 Lacrosse team MVP, 2010 field hockey team MVP, and 2009-2010 indoor tracks Most Valuable Female Athlete. Girling is also a two-time first team all-conference lacrosse player (2009 & 2010) and a recipient of the 2010 Corro Offensive Award.

Schmidt is an attacking midfielder out of Brightwaters, N.Y., where she is a three-sport athlete in lacrosse, cross country, and track and field. During her three-year prep career, Schmidt has totaled 13 varsity letters. A member of the Long Island Yellow Jackets Club Program, Schmidt was an Academic All-American and earned All-Division honors in 2010. She helped lead Bay Shore lacrosse to the 2010 County Championship by beating top-ranked Northport. Schmidt's older sister, Lauren, is a redshirt senior on the Stanford lacrosse team where she is a two-time MPSF Player of the Year and a member of the 2010 – 2011 U.S. National Team.

A goalie from Sudbury, Mass. and a member of the REV Black club program, Boyle will give the Wildcats some goalie depth in the fall of 2011. She helped lead her high school team to a second-place conference ranking after registering 20 saves in her final games vs. eventual state champion Framingham. A two-sport athlete, Boyle was named the Most Improved Player by her field hockey team after taking the cage for her first time ever this past fall.

Leonard, who attends Pope John Paul II high school where she is plays midfielder, is a three-year varsity starter and a two-time team captain (2009 & 2010). Leonard led her high school team in points during her sophomore and junior prep seasons. During her junior campaign she tallied 64 goals, 20 assists, 80 draw controls and 27 steals, and was named team MVP. A two-time member of the Tennessee Women's National Tournament team, Leonard was also a 2010 Academic All-American, 2010 All-State recipient and a 2008-2010 all-region player.  
 
A four-year varsity letter winner in lacrosse and a three-year starter at the attack position, Cooke led Marriotts Ridge high school to the County Championship, Regional Championship and State semifinal game where they eventually lost to Century. During her 2010 campaign, she tallied 52 goals and 28 assists before becoming an all-county selection. A two-sport athlete, Cooke also captained her varsity basketball team, which made it to the regional semifinals. She received the coaches' award and was named team MVP.

A defender out of Houston, Texas, Duncan was selected by opposing coaches as one of three Texas All-State defenders in 2010. A three-year varsity player and a 2011 team captain, Duncan helped lead her high school team to the 2010 Texas State Title after beating top-ranked Cy-Fair.

Rademacher, a midfielder and another Lynchburg, Va. native, is a four-year varsity starter for Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass. Rademacher was elected co-captain for the 2011 season. A member of the Mass Elite club program (2009 – 2011), she participated in the Women's National Tournament playing for ELNE (Eastern Lower New England. Rademacher is a dual-sport athlete in both lacrosse and soccer, and helped lead her varsity soccer team to the 2009 NEPSAC Championship.

Davidson is coming off a successful 2010 that saw it go 9-9 overall and make a trip to the NLC finals. The Wildcats return 16 letterwinners for the 2011 season, including eight starters. They open the season on Friday, Feb. 18 at home vs. Cincinnati with gametime set for 5 p.m. at Richardson Stadium.
