NEW ORLEANS – The Davidson men's cross country team was designated as an USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for the 13th consecutive year in an announcement by the U.S. Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association Thursday.
With a team grade point average of 3.31, Davidson was one of 152 Division I teams to earn the honor. A total of 31 conferences were represented, with the Big 12 leading all conferences with 10 members earning All-Academic honors.
Mississippi Valley State reported the highest cumulative GPA among All-Academic honorees with a 3.62. Southern Illinois followed with a 3.60.
The Wildcats were one of eight Southern Conference squads to earn the national award, which is given to teams who have competed and compiled a score at an NCAA Regional Meet, and have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative GPA.
In 2010, junior Ryan Hopkins led Davidson through another strong season in which the 'Cats placed third at the Southern Conference Championship. Hopkins twice broke the school's 8K course record and was named to the All-SoCon first team.
Florida State was the 2010 NCAA Division I USTFCCCA Men's Cross Country Scholar Team of the Year. The Scholar Team of the Year distinction goes to the program that earned All-Academic Team honors and placed the highest among the field at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
