DAVIDSON, N.C. - Baseball Hall of Famer Tommy Lasorda spoke at Davidson College Wednesday, Nov. 30 and spent time with the baseball team Thursday. Click here to view to photos from the events.
Lasorda began his visit by speaking to Davidson head coaches in a lunch hosted by Athletic Director Jim Murphy and his staff.
Demonstrating unwavering energy at 84 years old, Lasorda dined with donors before entertaining a crowd of 200 in Duke Family Performance Hall in the Knobloch Campus Center with a humorous and enlightening speech and question and answer session. He stayed to sign autographs for every fan, including 13 area little leaguers.
The next day, he coached batting practice for the Davidson College baseball team to conclude his two-day visit to Davidson.
In stark contrast to the sports media image which paints Lasorda as aggressive and demanding, while at Davidson Lasorda engaged and delighted every fan he encountered, from Davidson College President Carol Quillen to donors and fans of all ages.
The Davidson Athletic Foundation event raised in excess of $15,000 for the Davidson College Baseball Scholarship Fund.
