DAVIDSON, N.C. — Seeking to start Southern Conference play 3-0, Davidson quickly turns around after its win on Saturday and plays its second league game in a row with a matchup against the visiting Georgia Southern Eagles on Monday night at Belk Arena.
The Opening Tip
Davidson (5-4, 2-0 SoCon) looks to stay perfect at home and push its home win streak overall to six straight by hosting the Georgia Southern Eagles (2-7, 0-2 SoCon) on Monday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m.
The 'Cats are hunting for their first 3-0 start in SoCon play since the 2008-09 team won their first seven league games to open the year to set a school-record.
The All-Time Series/Last Meeting ...
... has Davidson up 20-19 after taking the last meeting, 60-46, at home. The 'Cats have won 14 of the last 16 meetings in the series, including rattling off a 13-game win streak during that span.
Scouting the Wildcats
•Davidson returned to the hardwood for the first time since Dec. 3 and scored its third straight win on Saturday with a big 56-39 triumph vs. College of Charleston in SoCon action.
•The 'Cats improved to 24-9 overall vs. the Cougars and have won four of last five meetings.
•Laura Murray (13.1 ppg) had a game-best 16 points and two other 'Cats reached double digits.
•Sophia Aleksandravicius and Barbara Sitton each chipped in with 10 points. Aleksandravicius had a season-best four blocks, while Sitton hauled in six boards and dished out five assists.
•For the sixth time this year, Davidson held an opponent under 36 percent shooting as CofC shot just 32 percent for the game.
•The Wildcats also forced 25 turnovers and turned those into a season-high 27 points.
•Aleksandravicius needs just nine more points to clip the 1,000-point mark. The junior also needs 17 more rebounds to cross into the 600 career rebound club.
•Davidson paces the SoCon in field goal percentage (.446) and is second in assists (14 apg).
•Davidson as a program is closing in on 350 wins during its 33-year history, sitting at 344.
•The 'Cats are a perfect 4-0 at home this year and have won five straight dating back to the last regular season game a year ago.
•Dating back to last Jan. 31, Davidson has won eight of their last nine home games overall.
•The Wildcats are outscoring opponents, 70-53, at home, and the opposition is shooting just 33.3 percent from the field, compared to nearly 50 percent for the 'Cats.
•Davidson last started 2-0 in league play during the 2008-09 season when it went 11-9 overall.
•The 'Cats, picked fifth in the SoCon preseason poll, return four starters and nine letterwinners.
•Head coach Michele Savage enters her second year at Davidson (19-21, 10-12 SoCon).
•Davidson scored its 20th series win in the last meeting vs. GSU and leads the series 20-19.
•The Wildcats split their season-series last year vs. the Eagles. In last year's home game vs. GSU, the 'Cats rolled to a 60-46 win. Murray had 23 points, Aleksandravicius had double-double (12 pt/career-high tying 16 rebounds) and broke the school's all-time blocks record.
Scouting the Eagles
•Georgia Southern, off since Dec. 8, dropped its third straight in its last game vs. Stetson, 61-51.
•MiMi DuBose paced the team with 16 points, while All-SoCon preseason pick Meredith Frye had her second career double-double with 14 points and 10 boards.
•Frye is averaging an even 10 points on the season. In her last time out vs. Davidson she had a game-high 12 points to go with five boards.
•Frye also paces the team in steals?(12), assists (16) and rebounds (43- 4.8 rpg).
•The Eagles have started 0-2 in league play, having lost to Appalachian State and Furman.
•GSU is 1-2 on the road, with that win coming at Mercer, Nov. 17. Their other win on the year is a neutral site victory vs. Jacksonville State.
•The Eagles were picked seventh in the SoCon preseason poll after a 12-18 (9-11 SoCon) season a year ago.
•Head coach Rusty Cram is in her 16th season at GSU with 233 wins during that span.
