Ryan Hopkins Named SoCon Men’s Runner of the Month

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Following a record-breaking month, Davidson senior Ryan Hopkins was honored as the Southern Conference Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Month for October, the league office announced Thursday.
Hopkins broke the all-time Davidson 8K record for the fourth time this season as he finished second at the Southern Conference Championship Saturday morning at the Trophy Lakes course, with a time of 23:30.19. The senior was 19 seconds behind the leader, UNCG's Paul Chelimo.
The Greenwich, Conn., native was honored as the Runner of the Week for October 19, after winning the Royal Cross Country Challenge in Charlotte.
This is the second monthly conference honor of Hopkins' career. He was named the runner of the month for September as a junior.
Davidson, ranked 11th in the Southeast region by the U. S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, will next compete at the NCAA Southeast Region Championships on Saturday, Nov. 12 in Louisville, Ky.
