'Cats Look to Close Homestand in Winning Fashion, Host App. State & Western this Weekend

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Playing its second-longest homestand of the year, Davidson will try to finish out the four-game stretch on a winning note when it hosts Appalachian State and Western Carolina at Alumni Stadium this Friday and Sunday.
The Matchup
Davidson plays a pair of Southern Conference contests starting with a 7 p.m. match on Friday, Oct. 7, against Appalachian State and then finishes the weekend up with a 2 p.m. game on Sunday, Oct. 9 vs. Western Carolina.
The All-Time Series/Last Meeting
Davidson has dominated the series against App. State, leading 18-2-3 all-time. The 'Cats are unbeaten at home in the series, going 8-0-1. Last year saw both teams play to a 0-0 draw in Boone, N.C.
The Wildcats also lead the series against Western, 7-5-1, but the Catamounts have taken the last three meetings including last year's 1-0 victory at home.
Scouting the Wildcats
Davidson (4-6-2, 2-2 SoCon) opened its homestand last weekend with a 1-1 mark against Elon (W, 1-0) and UNCG (L, 0-1) ... Becca Fisher kicked in her second game-winner on the season on a rebound goal Friday vs. Elon ... the freshman paces the Wildcats offensively with four goals and nine points ... she leads the team with 35 shots ... Fisher finished September scoring three goals in the final two games and picking up an assist for seven points ... Davidson's 22 goals are tied for third-most in the SoCon ... Rachel Stelter leads team with three assists ... goalkeeper Rachel Locke earned her first career shutout win vs. Elon ... she ranks second in the SoCon in goals against average (0.86) in nine games ... she has 30 saves ... Locke finished the month of September with a 3-2-1 record and had an outstanding 0.87 goals against average in nearly 518 minutes of action ... she gave up just five goals in the month ... the Wildcats' last three games vs. ASU at Alumni Stadium has seen them outscore the Mountaineers, 10-2 ... Davidson is 2-4-2 this year at home and 38-15-9 over the last seven seasons ... head coach Greg Ashton is 17 wins away from reaching 100 while at Davidson ... the 'Cats' welcome back eight starters and 17 total letterwinners from last year ... Davison was picked to finish seventh in the SoCon preseason poll.
Scouting the Mountaineers
ASU (5-6-1, 1-2-1 SoCon) finished 1-0-1 last weekend in games against Furman and Wofford ... Julia Holz netted the game-winner in overtime vs. Wofford, giving ASU its first overtime SoCon win since 2004 ... Holz paces the team with five goals for 10 points ... Hannah Coad has a team-best four assists ... goalkeeper Amy Kolowsky was named this week's SoCon Player of the Week after tallying 15 saves and a shutout win ... she has 61 saves in all on the year, starting all 12 games and has a 1.27 goals against average ... ASU?is 3-3 on the road ... the Mountaineers rank last in scoring with 11 goals ... they were picked to finish ninth in the league preseason poll ... ASU went 5-8-5 a year ago and return 15 letterwinners, eight of which are starters.
Scouting the Catamounts
Western (8-3-1, 3-1 SoCon) is tops in the league standings after going 2-0 last weekend vs. Wofford (2-1) and Furman (1-0) ... both games went into double-overtime ... the Catamounts are 2-2-1 on the road this year ... Samantha Hodge and Laura Greb pace the team with four goals each ... Hodge has five assists and a team-best 13 points ... WCU's 23 goals are second-most in the SoCon ... its 20 assists are tops in the league ... Katie Jacobs has started 11 games between the pipes and has a 1.14 goals against average ... she is 7-3-1 with three shutouts (tied for tops in the league) ... WCU returns 17 letterwinners, 10 of them starters from last year's 5-10-4 team.
