DAVIDSON, N.C. — It's Family Weekend at Davidson, and a host of home athletic events are slated for Saturday and Sunday. Check out the sport-by-sport previews below.
Field Hockey
The Wildcats will try to avenge a 5-3 setback at Radford two weeks ago when they host the Highlanders at 1 p.m. Saturday at Belk Turf Field. It's Senior Day, and Davidson will honor eight seniors prior to the beginning of the contest.
It's also the last regular-season contest for both teams as they prepare for the NorPac Tournament at Stanford University, Nov. 3-5.
Davidson is 3-2 in the NorPac and in second place in the East Division. The 'Cats come into the contest with a 9-7 overall record and are 2-2 in their last four. Davidson got a hat trick from Finley Amato Wednesday night en route to an 8-3 conference victory over Appalachian State. Davidson is 4-1 at home this season with the loss coming to 16th-ranked Louisville back on Sept. 3.
Radford enters the game with a 7-10 overall record and a 2-3 NorPac mark. The Highlanders have lost three in a row since topping Davidson 5-3 at home Oct. 14. Radford is coming off a 1-0 loss to Richmond Sunday.
Swimming and Diving
The swimming and diving teams will take on William and Mary in Cannon Natatorium Saturday at 1 p.m. The Tribe defeated the Wildcat women last year 146-95. The Wildcat Men were also defeated last year, but only by a margin of one point, with a final score of 121-120 in Williamsburg, Va.
About the Wildcats
The men fell 167-130 to East Carolina in their last meet two weeks ago. Senior Curtis Chaney was named CCSA Men's Swimmer of the Week after winning four events, two individual and two relays (100 free, 46.92; 200 free, 1:42.68; 400 medley relay, 3:26.32; 200 free relay, 1:26.37). Other individual wins against the Pirates included Dylan Ludwick (100 free, 9:40.82; 500 free, 4:41.83) Geoff Peitz (100 back, 52.04; 200 back, 1:52.29) and Drew Onken (100 breast, 58.04).
The Wildcat women also put forth a strong effort but were defeated by East Carolina 181-109.5. Event winners included Meredith Nakano (200 breast, 2:25.46), Liz Mace (200 fly, 59.94) and Lauren Kamperman (200 IM, 2:17.00), while second-place finishes came from Kamperman (200 free, 1:55.00), Kelsi Hobbs (100 fly, 1:00.37), Mackenzie Robinson, (200 IM, 2:17.00) and diver Karen Monuszko (234.45).
About William & Mary
The Tribe men's team is undefeated after topping Howard 176-79. The men swam strong, giving up only one event win to Howard, which came in the 100 breast. In their most recent meet, the Tribe women were defeated 163-117 by Richmond. The Tribe's individual winners included Liz Glenn (200 back, 2:03.94), Hailey Hewitt (100 fly, 58.11) and Brodde Lamb (200 IM 2:10.12).
Football
The Wildcats host PFL rival Campbell Sunday at 1 p.m. in Richardson Stadium. Click here for a full preview with game notes.
Volleyball
Davidson hosts two matches in Belk Arena this weekend. The 'Cats meet College of Charleston at 7 p.m. Saturday and face The Citadel at 2 p.m. Sunday. Davidson will celebrate Senior Day prior to Sunday's match and will honor three seniors.
The Wildcats are coming off a 3-0 victory over Chattanooga and enter the game with a 13-10 overall record and a 3-7 mark in the league. Davidson is 5-3 at home this season.
Middle hitter Tindall Sewell leads the 'Cats with a .415 hitting percentage and has 182 kills. Outside hitter Caroline Brown is hitting .214 with a team-leading 308 kills. Setter Ariel Ley leads the squad in assists with 758, while libero Molly Crenshaw has a team-leading 368 digs.
College of Charleston has won three straight and is coming off a 3-1 home win over Western Carolina. The Cougars are 17-9 overall and 8-2 in the league. The Citadel enters the weekend with a 7-17 overall record and searching for its first league win. The Bulldogs have lost their last eight and are 2-7 on the road this season.
Men's Soccer
The Wildcats host Appalachian State in a SoCon match Saturday at 7 p.m. Davidson men's soccer is hosting its inaugural Kick Cancer event, a fundraiser for breast cancer research. The team is selling t-shirts on campus at the Alvarez Student Union, at all remaining men's soccer home contests and at the football game vs. Campbell. Proceeds from the sale of t-shirts will benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Women's Soccer
Davidson (9-8-2, 7-4 SoCon) won the right to host a first-round SoCon Tournament game by earning the fourth seed and will play No. 5 seed Furman (11-7-2, 6-3-2 SoCon) Sunday, Oct. 30, at 3 p.m. in Alumni Stadium.
The 'Cats finished out the regular season on a strong note, winning their final two contests and seven of their last 10 games overall. They also played very well down the stretch at home, winning their last five games in a row.
Davidson SoCon Tournament History
The Wildcats are 16-12 in the tournament since 1994, the first year Davidson was a part of the SoCon. During head coach Greg Ashton's seven-year tenure, the Wildcats are 6-5-1 and have advanced to the semifinals five times. Davidson has won the league tournament title four times, with its most recent coming in 2009 when the 'Cats advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time.
The All-Time Series
Davidson trails the series vs. Furman, 8-17-3. The Paladins took a 3-0 decision earlier this year on their home field when both teams opened SoCon play. In the last seven meetings, the 'Cats are 3-3-1. The two teams have met in the league tournament six times, with the Paladins going 5-1 in those contests. The 'Cats' lone win came in the finals of the 1995 tournament, with them taking home a 3-0 win on their home field.
Men's Cross Country
Davidson travels to Charleston for the SoCon Championships Saturday with high hopes of improving on last year's fourth-place finish. The 'Cats have won two team events this season, placed third in another and finished seventh in a 29-team meet, hosted by Louisville.
Senior Ryan Hopkins has put together a marvelous season thus far and became the first runner in Davidson history to finish an 8K course in under 24 minutes. He won the Royal Cross Country Challenge Oct. 14 and finished second at the Greater Louisville Classic and the Clemson Invitational.
Junior Demetrios Pagonis placed fifth at the Eye-Opener Invitational and has the 'Cats second-best time this season at 24:19. He also placed fifth in the Clemson Invitational and 13th at the Greater Louisville Classic.
Women's Cross Country
The Wildcats enter the SoCon Championship in Charleston, S.C., looking to better last year's eighth-place finish. Two years ago, the team finished fifth and had three runners earn All-SoCon honors.
Leading the way this year are freshman Erin Osment and junior Natalie Atabek, who was an all-league pick two years ago. Osment has run very well lately, picking up a top-20 finish (14th- 18:09) at the Royal Cross Country Challenge down in Charlotte. She also finished 13th overall at the Charlotte Invitational to start the month of October.
Atabek opened the season with a ninth-place finish at the USC Upstate Eye Opener. She ran a time of 18:22, while Osment was right behind her at 18:26. Atabek's other solid race came at the Winthrop Invite when she was named to the All-Invitational Team after picking up a fourth-place finish (18:18.70). That meet also saw Osment finish third overall with a time of 18:11.66.
