Hopkins Named SoCon Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Davidson senior Ryan Hopkins was honored as the Southern Conference's Men's Runner of the Week following his winning performance at the Royal Cross Country Challenge, the league office announced Wednesday.
The Greenwich, Conn., native won the Royal Cross Country Challenge in Charlotte Friday after posting a time of 24:02 on the 8K course. Hopkins' mark is tied for the second fastest time at McAlpine Park, and he was only one second from the course record.
Davidson finished with a 50-point win over host Queens University.
This is the first time Hopkins has earned the weekly SoCon honor this season. He was twice named the runner of the week in 2010.
The Wildcats will compete again on Oct. 29 at the Southern Conference Championship in Charleston, S.C. Hopkins will look to improve on his third place finish from last year.
