'Cats Sixth After First Round of Mason Rudolph Championship

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Freshman Richard Fountain led Davidson to a sixth-place ranking with an even-par 71 in the first round of the Mason Rudolph Men's Golf Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club Friday.
Individually, Fountain (Raleigh, N.C.) is in a tie for 16th. Senior Bobby Urso (Beverly Hills, Mich.), junior Jackson Taylor (Wilmington, N.C.) and sophomore John Skeadas (Savannah, Ga.) are all just one stroke off at a one-over par 72 and tied for 28th place to give Davidson a total score of 287, three-over par.
Memphis and Oklahoma lead with a total team score of 274. Oklahoma's Will Kropp is the sole leader after shooting a 65, six-under par. Mississippi (282), South Carolina (285) and Vanderbilt (285) follow Memphsi and Oklahoma. Golfweek/Sagarin 2010 top-50 teams Chattanooga (eighth, 289) and Middle Tennessee State (tie-ninth, 292) and Southern Conference foe Western Carolina (11th place, 294) trail the Wildcats.
A total of 17 teams are competing in the tournament on the par-71, 7,100 yard course. The second round will begin at 8 a.m. CT Friday.
