DAVIDSON, N.C. — Recently graduated Davidson women's lacrosse players, Haley Cook (Darien, Conn.) and Michelle Pav (Golden, Colo.) were honored today by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) as they were two of 151 student-athletes from 62 different institutions to earn a spot on the 2010 Academic Honor Roll.
“It's exciting to see two seniors recognized for the hard work and dedication they put into their academics and athletics for the past four years,” said head coach Kim Wayne. “Both Haley and Pav are extremely deserving of this honor and I couldn't be more proud of them.”
Cook and Pav closed out their Wildcat careers this past spring as they helped guide Davidson to the National Lacrosse Conference Championship game in its first year in the league. The duo set personal career highs in their final season. Cook, who was a first-team NLC performer, set career highs with 43 goals (second-most in a Wildcat single season), 14 assists and 57 points. She was a two-time NLC Player of the Week in her senior campaign and was honored with the team MVP award.
Starting all 62 games during her four-year career, Cook tallied a total of 120 goals and 152 points. Her goal total put her fourth all-time in the Davidson record books, while her 152 points placed her fifth all-time.
Pav was the top goalie in the NLC as she was awarded the NLC's Goalie of Year honor and earned a spot on the all-league first team. In helping guide the Wildcats to the championship game, Pav was also named to the NLC All-Tournament Team.
She closed out her senior year with a career-high 146 saves to push her career total to 342, good for fifth all-time in the Wildcat record books. Pav recorded a team- and personal-best 42 ground balls, while also causing eight turnovers. She started all 18 games in her final campaign and started all 34 of Davidson's games during her last two seasons.
Cook and Pav also excelled in the classroom as they carried a GPA of 3.17 and 3.34. Cook graduated from Davidson this past spring with a degree in english, while Pav earned her degree in economics.
All student-athletes were nominated by their schools and had to have achieved at least junior status academically. Jill Davis from La Salle was the IWLCA Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while 44 student-athletes were members of teams that advanced to the NCAA tournament, including two from national semifinalist Northwestern.
