FARMVILLE, Va. — The Davidson women's lacrosse team scored four goals, two by senior Jen Crawford (Mountain Lakes, N.J.), on their first five shot attempts in the first five minutes of the game and rode that strong start to an easy 20-3 win over seventh-seeded Howard in the first round of the National Lacrosse Conference Tournament on Friday morning.
Davidson picked up its third win in the past four contests to improve to 8-8. The 'Cats also won their seventh straight in the all-time series vs. Howard, which finished the 2010 season at 2-13.
Crawford along with fellow classmate Haley Cook (Darien, Conn.) led the way on offense with six and five goals, respectively. Cook also dished out a pair of assists for a team-best seven points, one off her career-high eight she had last Saturday vs. Liberty.
30-goal scorer Alanna Parker (Spring Valley, Calif.) netted four goals and added an assist, while Emily Rahill (Ridgewood, N.J.) rounded out the multiple goal scorers with two.
Freshman Keena Classen (Baltimore, Md.) matched Cook with two assists as Davidson had eight as a team.
Howard had three players score single goals for its three scores.
Parker capped off a 6-0 run by Davidson to open the game with a free-position shot with 22:31 left in the half. Jenna Mugele (Baltimore, Md.) also scored in the opening few minutes.
After a Bison goal by Desiree Cox broke up the shutout, The senior duo of Cook and Crawford netted back-to-back goals off two nice passes from Classen for an 8-1 advantage.
Cook added three more goals in the half, while Parker went back-to-back in less than a minute during the three minute mark to give Davidson a commanding 14-3 halftime lead.
It was all Davidson in the second half as senior goalie Michelle Pav (Golden, Colo.) shut down the Bisons for the last 30 minutes, while her teammates netted another six goals for the 20-3 win.
Getting their first goals of the day in the second half was Lindsay Cooper (Baltimore, Md.) and Jessica Palfrey (Bronxville,?N.Y.), while Rahill capped off the Wildcats' big scoring day with two strikes in the last eight minutes. Alex DeFrancesch (Mill Neck, N.Y.) and Erin McGuire (Bishopville, Md.) put their names in the scorer's book with an assist each on Rahill's two goals.
Pav had her sixth double-digit save game of the season, halting 10 Bison shots to earn her career-high eighth win between the pipes.
Five different 'Cats had a couple of groundballs to lead Davidson to a 16-14 advantage. Davidson also had a 32-20 edge in shots, 15-10 edge in draw controls and forced 14 turnovers, with seven different players causing seven of them.
