Urso Leads 'Cats at Irish Creek Collegiate

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – After two rounds of golf Saturday, Charlotte leads the Irish Creek Classic, hosted by the Charlotte Regional Sports Commission at The Club at Irish Creek. Belmont Abbey's Joe Campbell leads individually, while Davidson's Bobby Urso shot a career-best 67 in the first round.
The teams will return to action on the par-71, 7099-yard, Davis Love III designed course tomorrow beginning at 8 a.m.
Charlotte (562) holds a two-stroke lead over Belmont Abbey (284+280=564) after improving on a first-round 284 with a second-round 278. Charlotte was led by Olafur Loftsson, who tied for second with Urso after the first round with a four-under-par 67. Loftsson shot a 71 in the second round to place fourth at 138.
Mercer's Matt Tribby led the first round after shooting a five-under-par 66, but trails the leader Campbell by one stroke. Campbell followed a first-round two-under 69 with a four-under 67 to lead at 136, six-under par.
Davidson sits in ninth place at 593 (297+296). Urso leads the Wildcats with a two-under-par 140 (67+71) and is tied for fifth. Four strokes behind Urso is sophomore Jackson Taylor (144, 19th place), who matched Urso's second-round 71 after shooting a two-over-par 73 in the opening round. John Skeadas III (79+74=153) and Christopher Rollins (78+78=156) round out the 'Cats scoring group.
The tournament is being played at The Club at Irish Creek for the first time in the event's 13-year history. 13, five-man teams are competing as well as 10 individuals representing Charlotte, Belmont Abbey, Davidson, and Kennesaw State.
