Graham and Pav Sweep Top Honors; Seven ‘Cats Named to NLC All-League Teams

DAVIDSON, N.C. — In its first year in the National Lacrosse Conference, Davidson made quite an impression as the Wildcats put a combined seven players on either the first or second team, while junior Lily Graham (Washington, D.C.) and senior Michelle Pav (Golden, Colo.) took home Defender and Goalie of the Year awards as announced by the league office today.
Joining Graham and Pav on the All-NLC First Team are the senior duo of Haley Cook (Darien, Conn.) and Jen Crawford (Mountain Lakes, N.J.), along with junior defender Stella Davis (Phoenix, Md.). The second team had a pair of 'Cats in senior Emily Rahill (Ridgewood, N.J.) and freshman Alanna Parker (Spring Valley, Calif.).
Graham and Pav were part of a defensive unit that held opponents to 11.67 goals per game and a .446 shooting percentage. Graham has started all 15 games for the 'Cats, while picking up a career-high 20 groundballs and forced a team-best 12 turnovers, all new personal bests for the junior.
Pav has been the Wildcats main goalkeeper, having started all 15 games. The senior stopped a 116 shots during the regular season, third-best in the NLC, while her 38 groundballs were a team-high and put her sixth in the league. Pav's 312 career saves currently put her fifth all-time in the Wildcat record books.
The combo of Cook and Crawford have been one of the best in the NLC this year. They have combined for 73 of Davidson's 179 goals on the season, while dishing out 22 assists. Cook, who won her second NLC Player of the Week honor Apr. 27, has had a career senior campaign. She set career bests in goals (35), assists (11), points (46) and groundballs (22). Cook ranks in the top-10 of the NLC in five offensive categories.
Crawford also has had a solid senior year with career highs of 38 goals and 11 assists for a new personal- and team-best 49 points. Her 38 draw controls are a team and career-high. She was tops on the team in free-position shots, going 13-for-20.
The two seniors are currently in the top-five of the Wildcat record books in both goals and points. Cook is fourth in goals with 112 for her career, while her 141 points are good for fifth. Crawford's 123 career goals put her third in the record books, while her 145 points put her fourth on the charts.
Davis started 13 of her 14 games, picking up nine groundballs, hauling in 20 draw controls and forcing four turnovers. Both her totals of groundballs and draw controls were career highs this season.
Assisting Cook and Crawford this year on offense was Rahill and Parker. Rahill had a stellar senior year with career bests of 16 goals and 19 points. Her six groundballs and 11 draw controls also were personal bests, while starting 10 of her 15 games.
Parker was one of the top freshman in the NLC. The midfielder was third on the team with 33 goals and 43 points, both were good for eighth-most in the league. She was one of five 'Cats to gather in 20 or more groundballs, getting 24, while she was third on the team with 22 draw controls.
Longwood's junior Karli Brentlinger was named the National Lacrosse Conference Player of the Year, while Longwood head coach Missy Ackerman and Jacksonville head coach Mindy McCord shared the NLC Coach of the Year honors. Brentlinger led the NLC in shots on goal (98), was second in shots (125), third in goals (49), fourth in points (55) and 10th in groundballs (33).
Ackerman shared Coach of the Year honors after leading the Lancers to the top-spot in the NLC tournament and an 8-8 record overall. McCord guided the Dolphins to a 6-10 overall record and a mark of 4-2 in league play to enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed.
In all, 24 student-athletes were honored between the NLC first and second all-league teams.
The Wildcats (7-8, 5-1 NLC) will head to the NLC Tournament this weekend, Apr. 30-May 2, in Farmville, Va. as the No. 2 seed. They will face off against seventh-seeded Howard (2-12, 0-6 NLC) on Friday at 10 a.m.
