DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson will enter its first National Lacrosse Conference Tournament as the No. 2 seed after compiling a 5-1 league record in the regular season. It will be matched up against seventh-seeded Howard in the first round on Friday.
The Opening Draw Control
The Wildcats start their quest for the program's first ever tournament title when they battle the Bison on Friday, Apr. 30, at 10 a.m. on the campus of Longwood University.
This is the second year of the NLC Tournament as Longwood took home the inaugural tournament last year with a 19-8 win over Detroit Mercy.
The All-Time Series/Last Meeting
The 'Cats and Bison have squared off six times in the all-time series, with Davidson leading 6-0. The last meeting between the two program's resulted in a 19-6 win for Davidson back on Mar. 13.
Scouting the Wildcats
Davidson finished 7-8 overall ... the 'Cats enter the tournament winners of two of their last three games ... they closed the year out with a season-best 21 goals in a 21-4 win vs. Liberty, Apr. 24 ... Davidson also had season bests of 32 points and 11 assists ... leading the offense is three 30-goal scorers in the senior duo of Jen Crawford (career-high 38) and Haley Cook (career-high 35) along with freshman Alanna Parker (33) ... Crawford was fifth in the league in points with 49 ... Cook was a two-time NLC Player of the Week (Mar. 13 & Apr. 27) ... Davidson had 14 goals in the first half vs. Howard ... five players had multi-goal games in the 13-goal victory last meeting with the Bison ... the 'Cats were third in the league in goals with 179 ... The defensive trio of Lily Graham, Stella Davis and Lauren Vanhusen have combined for 48 groundballs, 24 draw controls and 23 caused turnovers ... goalie Michelle Pav has stopped 117 shots, third-best in the league and is 7-8 between the pipes.
Scouting the Bison
Howard ended the season with a 2-12 overall record ... the Bison have been off since Apr. 11 when they lost at Bucknell ... their two wins this year came at Trinity DC and Oberlin ... pacing the offense is Desiree Cox, who found the back of the net 57 times ... she concluded the season with 57 goals, 8 assist and 65 points, putting her tops in the league in goals and second in points ... Ashlee Brown (20 goals) and Ashley Lawrence (19 gls/6 ast) have 23 and 25 points, respectively ... Howard finished 1-4 in its final five games ... Howard allowed 249 goals (18.96 per game) in the regular season.
