DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women's lacrosse team will close out the regular season with a home National Lacrosse Conference matchup against Liberty on Saturday afternoon as the Wildcats will also honor their four seniors for Senior Day.
The Opening Draw Control
Davidson (6-8, 4-1 NLC), looks to seal up the No. 2 seed for the upcoming NLC Tournament (Apr. 29-May 2) when it battles the Liberty Flames (1-10, 1-4 NLC) on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Richardson Stadium.
The Wildcats will be hunting for their sixth win at home, the most since rattling off eight in 2008.
Prior to the game, the senior quartet of Haley Cook, Jen Crawford, Michelle Pav and Emily Rahill will be honored for their playing careers with the Wildcat lacrosse program.
The All-Time Series/Last Meeting
This will be the first meeting between both schools as Liberty is in their first year of play for women's lacrosse.
Last Time Out...
... Davidson — Playing its last road contest of the regular season, the Davidson women's lacrosse team (0-6) fell short in a 10-4 non-conference decision at American on Sunday afternoon at Jacobs Field.
Freshman Alanna Parker paced the Wildcats with a pair of goals, while fellow freshman Erin McGuire and senior Jen Crawford added the other two goals.
Lauren Vanhusen and goalkeeper Michelle Pav each tallied three of Davidson's 14 groundballs. Pav halted eight Eagle shots in goal to push her season total to 115 saves.
The Wildcats fell behind 4-0, but got on the board when McGuire netted her second collegiate goal at the 13:05 mark, but American added one more score before halftime and the 'Cats were down 5-1.
A four-goal run to open the second half by the Eagles saw them open up a 9-1 lead that Davidson was never able to overcome.
The 'Cats did rattled off three straight goals of their own in the latter part of the half. Parker went back-to-back in the 13th and 11th minutes to give her 30 goals on the season.
Crawford scored the Wildcats' final goal on an unassisted strike at the 10:21 mark for a 9-4 score, before American added the last goal with 1:25 left in the game.
... Liberty — Hoping to claim sole possession of fifth place in the National Lacrosse Conference standings, the Liberty women's lacrosse team unfortunately could not prevent the home team from finding the net early and often, as the Presbyterian Blue Hose took the contest, 17-3. With the defeat, Liberty drops to 1-4 in conference play and is now guaranteed the sixth spot in the conference tournament.
Attacker Kristin Crowley paced the Lady Flames offense with two goals, followed by midfielder Sierra Clearwater, who chipped in a marker to round out Liberty's scoring total.
The Blue Hose struck early, netting a quartet of goals, and pushed the lead to 9-1 at halftime.
The lead grew to 16-1, before Liberty added a pair of goals.
On the defensive end for Liberty, goalie Rebekah Luetters, collected 11 saves.
