WASHINGTON, D.C. — Playing its last road contest of the regular season, the Davidson women's lacrosse team fell short in a 10-4 non-conference decision at American on Sunday afternoon at Jacobs Field.
Davidson fell to 6-8 on the season, while American improved to 6-9. In a series that dates back to 1994, the Eagles now hold an 8-2 lead in the all-time series.
Freshman Alanna Parker (Spring Valley, Calif.) paced the Wildcats with a pair of goals, while fellow freshman Erin McGuire (Bishopville, Md.) and senior Jen Crawford (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) added the other two goals. Crawford dished out an assist to push her team-best points total to 44 (35 goals / 9 assist- career-high).
Lauren Vanhusen (Great Falls, Va.) and goalkeeper Michelle Pav (Golden, Colo.) each tallied three of Davidson's 14 groundballs. Pav halted eight Eagle shots in goal to push her season total to 115 saves.
American's Lisa Schaaf and Emily Burton scored three goals apiece, while Samantha Marshall had a team-high two assists.
Both offenses struggled early on until American got on the scoreboard first with a Schaaf strike 6:35 into the game off a feed from Burton. Less than a minute later, Maeve Koch gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
The Wildcats then fell behind 4-0 after Schaaf and Amanda Makoid followed with a pair of unassisted goals over the next four-plus minutes in the first half.
Davidson got on the board when McGuire netted her second collegiate goal at the 13:05 mark, but American added one more score before halftime and the 'Cats were down 5-1.
A four-goal run to open the second half by the Eagles saw them open up a 9-1 lead that Davidson was never able to overcome.
The 'Cats did rattled off three straight goals of their own in the latter part of the half. Parker went back-to-back in the 13th and 11th minutes to give her 30 goals on the season. The freshman is one of three Wildcats to eclipse the 30-goal mark this year.
Crawford scored the Wildcats' final goal on an unassisted strike at the 10:21 mark for a 9-4 score, before American added the last goal with 1:25 left in the game.
The Wildcats wrap up the regular season with a 1 p.m. National Lacrosse Conference contest at home vs. Liberty. Prior to the game, Davidson will honor its four seniors.
