Rollins T-6th, 'Cats 9th After First Round of SoCon Golf Championships

FLORENCE, S.C. – Christopher Rollins' one-under par 71 leads Davidson after the first round of the Southern Conference Men's Golf Championship on Sunday at the Country Club of South Carolina. Rollins is tied for sixth individually, while the Wildcats rank ninth as a team.
Four 'Cats combined for a 302, 14-over par. Rollins was just one of 10 competitors to finish the first day under par. Freshman Walker Allen and sophomore Jackson Taylor both shot four-over par 76's, while freshman John Skeadas III shot a 79 to round out Davidson's scoring group.
Furman leads by 10 strokes as the only team under par with an eight-under 280. Georgia Southern, UNC Greensboro and Appalachian State are tied for second at 290, while Chattanooga, Western Carolina and Elon are tied for fifth at 295. College of Charleston leads Davidson by five strokes in eighth. Samford and Wofford both trail the Wildcats at 305.
Daniel Bowden of Furman leads individually after firing a five-under par 67.
The second round of the championship will tee off on the par 72, 7,062-yard course Monday at 8 a.m. The final round begins Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. The team champion will receive the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship. The conference medalist will also qualify individually for NCAA postseason play should their institution not advance to regionals.
