Irish Creek Collegiate Golf Classic Set for Apr. 3-4

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson men's golf team will compete in their final home tournament of the season when the Irish Creek Collegiate Golf Classic, hosted by Charlotte, Davidson and Belmont Abbey in conjunction with the Charlotte Regional Sports Commission, takes place Saturday and Sunday at The Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis, N.C.
The tournament is being played on the par-71, 7099-yard, Davis Love III designed course at Irish Creek for the first time in the 13-year history of the event. Joining host institutions Davidson, Charlotte and Belmont Abbey in the 13-team field will be Richmond, Mercer, Elon, Miami (Ohio), Ohio State, Toledo, Kennesaw State, Campbell, Francis Marion and Marquette.
Two rounds are scheduled for Saturday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start for the first round. Pairings for the final round will be adjusted by score, with the first teams teeing off from the first and 10th holes at 8:30 a.m.
Sophomore Jackson Taylor has emerged as the 'Cats' top performer this spring, winning the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate Feb. 22-23 and posting the team's lowest stroke average of 74.61. Junior captain Bobby Urso has also performed well, posting a 74.89 stroke average so far this season. John Skeadas III has put together a solid freshman campaign, posting a top-10 finish at the Wexford Intercollegiate and ranking third on the team with a 75.17 stroke average.
The Irish Creek Collegiate also serves as the final regular season tournament for the Wildcats, as they will next compete in the Southern Conference Championship. The SoCon Championship will return to the Country Club of South Carolina Apr. 18-20 for the fourth consecutive year. Davidson started the 2009 fall season on the same course and will be looking to improve on last season's seventh-place finish.
