Wildcats Host Mt. Saint Mary's and Presbyterian this Weekend at Wilson Field

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Davidson Wildcats will host Mount St. Mary's and Presbyterian for a pair of games each at Wilson Field this weekend. Davidson will kickoff the weekend with a 6 p.m. game against Mt. Saint Mary's Friday.
Mt. Saint Mary's and Presbyterian will play a neutral-site game at noon on Saturday, followed by Davidson versus Presbyterian at 3:30 p.m.
The Wildcats will conclude the weekend with a double-header beginning with Mt. Saint Mary's at 1 p.m. Sunday. The second game of the double dip is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start. against Presbyterian.
About Mount St. Mary's
Mount St. Mary's will play their season opener against Davidson tomorrow night. The Mountaineers were picked to finish sixth in the Northeast Conference preseason coaches' poll, behind Wagner, Monmouth, Central Connecticut State, Sacred Heart and Bryant.
Mt. Saint Mary's finished 23-25 overall in 2009 and 15-11 in the Northeast Conference. The Mountaineers are led by reigning NEC Player of the Year Shane Eyler, who had a breakout season last year, hitting .380 with 11 doubles, 15 home runs, 46 RBI, 39 runs scored and a .717 slugging percentage. Eyler led the Mount in hits, runs, home runs, RBI, total bases (119), slugging percentage and on-base percentage (.446). The Mount returns eight starters on offense and the top 11 pitchers from last year's squad.
Senior Costa Kapothanasis is slated to make the start against the Wildcats tomorrow evening. In 2009, he started a team-high nine games (two complete games), finishing with a 4-3 record and 5.06 ERA in 58.2 innings over 12 appearances.
About Presbyterian
Presbyterian enters the weekend with a 1-3 record after opening with a 1-6 loss to Appalachian State at the USC Upstate Tournament, where they also lost to the host, 3-6. The Blue Hose defeated USC Upstate in their only home game so far, 3-2, and lost at Georgia, 3-11.
The 2010 Blue Hose return 21 student-athletes from last year's squad that finished 13-38, including a road series sweep over Charleston Southern as well a win over No. 19 Coastal Carolina.
Junior Mack Hite is leading the offense so far this season, batting .333 (5-for-15), followed by classmate Nate Horton (.286, 4-for-14). Hite batted .311 (50-for-161) in 2009, fourth best on the team, with a home run and nine RBI. Sophomore Andrew Williams is the team's leading returning hitter, having batted .311 (51-for-164) with three home runs and 27 RBI a season ago.
Redshirt sophomore Steven Richardson is slated to start the Blue Hose's neutral-site game against Mt. Saint Mary's Saturday. Richardson is 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA this season in two appearances (one start). Sophomore Jordan Pace (0-2, 9.50) is schedule to start Presbyterian's final game against Davidson Sunday, with the starter for the Blue Hose's game against the Wildcats on Saturday yet to be determined.

The Wildcats will travel to Auburn for a two-game road trip March 2 and 3, with both games tentatively scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CST starts. Davidson returns to Wilson Field next weekend for a pair of games against Bryant and a game with UNC Asheville.
