Radsky Wins at 133 Pounds at The Citadel Open

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Alex Radsky led Davidson wrestling at The Citadel Open, winning the 133-pound bracket Saturday in McAlister Field House.
Radsky went 6-0 en route to the bracket title with one pin, a technical fall and two major decisions. He felled South Carolina's Solomon Addico in 5:40, took a 14-3 major decision over Andrew Tillman (Spartanburg Methodist), and tech falled Matt Fletcher (21-6, 5:53) to advance to the quarterfinals. In the quarters he defeated Ashton Griffin, 5-2 and advanced to earn a 13-5 major decision over UNC Pembroke's Brian Thompson. Radsky then defeated Appalachian State's Marcus Chevres, 8-2 for the title.
Senior Charlie Wolff placed second in the heavyweight bracket. Wolff earned a 3-2 decision over UNC Pembroke's Chris Giddens and advanced to the quarterfinals when his opponent forfeited due to injury. Wolff scored a 2-1 decision in the first sudden victory period over Newberry's Matt Wade, and then advanced to the championship bout with a 4-2 decision. Khiry Reid of Campbell prevailed over Wolff though, 4-1, in a match that was decided in the first tiebreaker period.
Junior Tyler Mullen placed third, losing only his semifinal bout. He opened with an 8-2 decision over Limestone's Chris Didyoung and then tech-falled VMI's James Clark, 15-0 in 5:45 to reach the semis, but was pinned by South Carolina's Mike Ahearn. Mullen rallied to defeat Duke's David Henry in a 3-2 decision.
Sophomore Matt Zarth placed fourth at 125 pounds. He opened by pinning Mercer's Nicholas Wright in 2:30 and then took a 9-2 decision over Steve McLeod (Belmont-Abbey) to advance to the semifinals. Limestone's Brandon Feix earned a 6-3 decision over Zarth, though. Zarth reached the third-place bout with a close 6-5 decision over The Citadel's John Hellinger, but Joaquin Marquez won 3-1 in the sudden victory period.
Sophomore Brent Mowry opened with a pair of wins at 157 pounds, including a pin, but was pinned in the quarterfinals by Appalachian State's Ricky Anderson. Mowry advanced to the wrestleback semifinals with a 14-4 major decision over UNC Pembroke's Jake McKay, but was felled by Duke's Ryan Harding.
Sophomore Scott Ray went 2-2 at 141 pounds, earning one win by fall over South Carolina's Brian Wolfe.
Sophomore Ike Crews went 1-2 at 184 pounds, winning a decision over VMI's Josh Phillips.
Davidson will return to action Saturday at the NC State Open.
