DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson's senior duo of midfielder Allison Drutchas (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) and defender Amanda Flink (Richardson, Texas) each were honored for their outstanding seasons with spots on the All-Southern Conference Second Team as voted on by the league's women's soccer coaches and announced today by the league office.
The pair of Wildcats were both part of the 11-member preseason all-league team to start the year. They make it 17 years in a row that at least one Wildcat or more has been named to either the first or second teams. It's also the fourth straight year at least two 'Cats have earned all-league team honors.
A co-captain this year, Drutchas had a breakout senior campaign. She led the team with a career-high 15 points on three goals and a personal-best nine assists. Her nine assists currently rank second in the SoCon and were tied for the second-most in a Wildcat single season.
In addition to leading the team in points, goals and assists, Drutchas also had a team-high 44 shots, putting 25 of those on goal, picked up a pair of game-winning goals and hit both of Davidson's penalty kicks during the season.
Just a day earlier, the senior midfielder was honored for her academic excellence by earning a spot on CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District III First Team. She moves onto the national ballot for the Academic All-America team.
For Flink, it's the second straight year she has grabbed a spot on the league's second team as a defender. The senior matched her career-best and tied for the team-high honors with Drutchas and Deprise Brazel (San Diego, Calif.) by knocking in three goals.
Flink was part of a Wildcat defense this season that picked up eight shutouts, third-most in the league. In the last four games, Davidson's defense gave up just two goals. During Flink's four years, the Wildcat defense picked up 32 shutouts with her on the backline.
A regular in the starting lineup since first arriving in 2007, Flink started all 20 games this year and saw her name in the starting lineup 78 times overall. She finished with 12 career goals, three assists and 30 points.
After finishing the regular season with an 11-0 record in conference play, UNCG was rewarded with six selections to the SoCon women's soccer all-conference teams, including five first-team honorees.
The Citadel, the league's surprise story in 2010, swept the individual awards as freshman forward Mariana Garcia earned both Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors, while the Bulldogs head coach Bob Winch was voted by his peers as Coach of the Year for the second consecutive campaign.
Davidson closed out the 2010 season with a 6-8-6 overall mark and 2-4-5 in SoCon play. It advanced to the SoCon Tournament, falling in the first round to Samford in penalty kicks.
