GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Lindsey Martin and Drew Onken each won a pair of individual titles as the Davidson Wildcat men's and women's swimming and diving teams concluded competition against the East Carolina Pirates Friday evening at the Minges Aquatic Center.
Martin swept the freestyle sprints, winning the 50 free and the 100 free with times of 23.79 and 51.98, respectively. Onken won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:07.28 and finished first in the 400 IM with a time of 4:05.41. He also finished in the runner-up spot in the 100 breast with a time of 59.08.
Senior Jessica Delgehausen was also an individual winner for the Wildcats, finishing first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:37.94.
"I'm really proud of Jessica's 1000," head coach John Young said. "In these early meets, it is easy to react to one's surroundings, but Jessica stayed focused on her own rhythm and executed a very nice race."
Senior Emily Castle won the 100 fly for a second straight week, touching the wall at 56.65, and junior Geoff Peitz and the Pirate's Roman Sandler outraced the field and touched at 1:55.51 in the 200 backstroke. Peitz also finished second in the 100 back with a time of 52.07.
The Pirates took both team titles, defeating the Wildcat women, 174-121, and the Wildcat men, 194.5-97.5.
"A day trip on a class day is a challenging circumstance," Young said. "Those who embraced that challenge and raced hard against a good ECU team will see benefits as our preparation continues to advance."
The Wildcats will swim their third straight meet on the road when they travel to NC State Saturday Oct. 23 for a 1 p.m. meet. Davidson will open its home season when it hosts CCSA-foe Coll. of Charleston at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30.
