DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Coming off a 3-1 win in its SoCon opener at Wofford, the Davidson Wildcats host the preseason North Division favorite Samford Bulldogs, who are winless in league play, at 2 p.m. Saturday at Belk Arena.

The All-Time Series
Davidson (9-8, 1-0 SoCon) is 0-4 all-time against Samford (6-10, 0-2 SoCon) in the young series that dates back to just 2008. The Bulldogs beat the Wildcats, 3-1 at Samford last season, and defeated Davidson three times in 2008, including as the No. 1 seed in the SoCon tournament.

Scouting the Wildcats
Davidson won its conference opener for the first time since 2005 when it defeated Wofford, 3-1, on Tuesday night. Senior outside hitter Sarabeth Peele topped the 20-kill plateau for the first time in 2010, finishing with 21 to lead the Wildcats, who also got double-digits from senior middle blocker Jorden Benedict (14) and junior opposite Erin Lupfer (13).

The Wildcats rank seventh in hitting percentage (.195), opponent hitting percentage (.183), assists (652, 10.87/s) and kills (712, 11.87/s). Davidson leads the league in service aces with 110 (1.83/s) and rank 12th with 718 digs (11.97/s). Individually, Benedict ranks ninth in hitting percentage (.315), and Peele is fourth with 170 kills (2.88/s). Senior setter Hayley Lawson ranks fifth in assists with 459 (7.78/s), and junior Christine Perzinski is second with 24 aces (0.40/s).

Scouting the Bulldogs
Preseason favorite in the North Division, the Bulldogs have struggled out of the gates in conference play. Samford, who reached the conference championship finals last season, brings a seven-match losing streak to Belk with its last win coming in a five-setter against Louisiana-Lafayette Sept. 10. The Bulldogs' losing streak includes losses to Southern Miss (0-3), Ole Miss (0-3), Stephen F. Austin (1-3), Rice (1-3) and Arkansas State (2-3), as well as UNCG?(0-3) and Elon (1-3).

The Bulldogs have the fifth-best hitting percentage in the conference (.197), with Lauren Hutchinson ranked fourth individually with a .345 clip. The Bulldogs are led the league in kills as a team (13.02/s) and are second in assists (12.04/s), but are ranked 11th in opponent percentage (.213). Hutchinson also leads the Bulldogs in kills (124, 2.95/set), ranking just ahead of Peele in third. Katie Murphy (157, 2.75/s) and Elizabeth Neisler (156, 2.74/s) rank seventh and eighth in kills, while Samford setter Hillary Fountain is seventh with 7.39 assists/set and fifth in aces with 0.37/set. Alexis Bauer ranks eighth in the SoCon in digs (189, 3.32/s).

Davidson hosts Gardner- Webb, Tues., Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. at Belk Arena in its final non-conference match of the season, before heading to Charleston to face the College of Charleston (Oct. 9) and The Citadel (Oct. 10).
