Late Goal From Page Gives 'Cats 2-1 Win Over Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C. – Sophomore Allen Page made his first-career goal a special one, winning a goal-mouth challenge and volleying in a Charlie Reiter corner kick with 1:27 remaining in the game to give the Davidson men's soccer team a 2-1 win over Presbyterian on Sunday night at Martin Field.
The Wildcats' improved to 4-1 by winning their second consecutive road match while Presbyterian fell to 1-4.
“It was great for our team to gut out an important win on the road,” said head coach Matt Spear. “Presbyterian is a blue-collar, hard-working team that made it really difficult for us.”
The Blue Hose struck first when Davis Orders headed in a free kick cross from Juan Ocampo in the 11th minute, but the 'Cats answered less than two minutes later. Defender Hunter Hayes sent a long pass to Mark Millard, who scored from 15 yards out to even the score at one.
“I thought we responded well, and controlled and dominated the first half,” said Spear. “We got a little off though in the second half and allowed PC to get some good chances on us.”
Davidson outshot Presbyterian 10-4 in the first half, but the Blue Hose turned the tables in the second half, outshooting the 'Cats 10-7. Goalkeepers Chip Sanders (Davidson) and James Neal (Presbyterian) made four saves each.
The Wildcats held a 14-3 advantage in corner kicks, as Page made good on the final one from Reiter.
“I am so excited for Allen,” said Spear. “It's great for him to get such a big goal so early in his career.”
Davidson will look to go 3-for-3 in the win column for their road trip at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at High Point. The 'Cats will next play at Alumni Stadium on Friday, taking on South Carolina at 7 p.m.
