Davidson Places 24 on SoCon Spring All-Academic Team

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Twenty-four Davidson student-athletes were named to the 2008-09 Southern Conference Spring Academic All-Conference team, as announced today by the league office.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must possess at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average entering the spring season.
The Wildcat baseball team led the way with seven honorees, followed by the men's outdoor track &?field and men's tennis teams, who each placed five student-athletes to the squad. Women's tennis had three named, with men's golf and women's outdoor track & field placing a pair each.
A total of 320 student-athletes, representing all 12 Southern Conference institutions, were named to the team. The 320 student-athletes, which participated in men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's outdoor track and field, baseball and softball, averaged a 3.56 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
Among the various sports, the highest representation came from track and field with 113 overall (57 female, 56 male), followed by baseball with 65 and softball with 36. Appalachian State had the most student-athletes represented with 44, followed by Western Carolina (33) and Georgia Southern (32).
