Saari Named SoCon Men’s Golfer of the Week

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Following a week in which he carded both a career-best round and 54-hole score, senior Michael Saari was named the Southern Conference Men's Golfer of the Week, as announced by the league office today.
Saari fired an opening-round 68 on his way to a tie for eighth place out of 87 individuals at the Palisades Collegiate, which was co-hosted by Davidson, Charlotte and Belmont Abbey. The four-under-par 68 was the lowest round of Saari's collegiate career and the best single-round count on the team this season.
His three-round total of 211 (-5) equaled the Lilburn, Ga., native's best three-round mark as a Wildcat. Following the 68, Saari carded an even-par 72 in round two and a one-under par 71 in the third and final round.
This is the first conference honor for Saari, who leads the 'Cats with a 73.85 strokes-per-round average, and also has the lone individual win on the team this year with his victory at the Davidson College Invitational.
The golfer of the week is selected by a vote of the league's men's golf sports information directors.
Saari and the Wildcats will head down to Florence, S.C., on April 19-21 for the 2009 SoCon Championships, held at the Country Club of South Carolina.
