
Mullen, DeCamp Named to SoCon All-Freshman Team

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Following a pair of impressive rookie campaigns, David DeCamp and Tyler Mullen were named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team, as announced by the league office today.
The duo combined for a 23-27 overall record on the year, including 4-4 in SoCon action, with seven pins between them.
DeCamp amassed a 10-13 record overall at 149, going 4-1 in the conference. He was tied for the team lead with 39 points earned, in part to three pins and a 9-7 dual meet mark. The Robbinsville, N.J. native had four two-match winning streaks throughout the season, including back-to-back victories to close the regular season. During the final month of the regular season, DeCamp went 4-1, with a pair of pins and recorded 18 points in his four wins.
Mullen, who competed at both 165 and 174, finished the regular season with a 13-14 mark, 7-10 in dual meets. He was tied for the top spot on the team with four pins, which came in an average of just over three minutes into the match. The Westminster, Md. native earned 34 points on the year, fourth-highest on the squad. At the Davidson Open, he brought home the top tournament finish of his young career, taking third place honors in the 165 bracket, winning four of five matches in the tournament. After falling in the semifinals, he won a 1-0 decision in the third-place match.
The league also announced its regular season awards, which included the All-SoCon team and the Wrestler of the Year, which was shared by Chattanooga's Cody Cleveland and UNC?Greensboro's Chris Bencivenga. Cleveland, ranked No. 11 nationally by Intermatwrestle.com, finished the regular season a 19-6 overall record, including a perfect 4-0 conference mark. Bencivenga, ranked No. 20, had a 27-9 overall record, including a 4-1 SoCon mark.
Davidson will head to the Southern Conference Championships this weekend in Charleston, S.C. They tournament will kick off at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, at The Citadel's McAlister Field House.
