GAMBIER, OHIO -- Behind her third individual title and an NCAA B-cut time in the 100 freestyle, junior Lindsey Martin was named the Swimmer of the Meet as the Davidson Wildcat swimming and diving team concluded competition at the Nike Invitational at Kenyon College Saturday evening.
Martin won the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.17, after winning the 50 free and the 200 freestyles on Friday. She also anchored the Wildcats' runner-up 400 freestyle relay, along with teammates Jean DeOrnellas, Anna Stringfield and Jessica Delgehausen Friday evening, after anchoring Davidson to a win in the 200 freestyle relay the day before.
The Wildcats earned 11 swims in the evening session, led by top times from Martin and Emily Castle. Castle swam the top time in the morning session of the 100 fly (56.74) and won the event in the night cap with a time of 56.41. Likewise, Martin turned in the best time in the 100 free prelim with a time of 51.18 and won the event in the evening session by more than two seconds.
Lauren Kamperman also earned a pair of evening swims, joining Castle in the 100 fly with a preliminary time of 59.37 and advancing to the 200 IM final with a time of 2:09.02. She finished with a runner-up time of 2:08.66 in the 200 IM.
Jessica Delgehausen swam a time of 5:04.69 in the 500 freestyle, finishing fifth in the championship final with a time of 5:04.07.
Kelsi Hobbs swam the second best time in the 200 backstroke prelims (2:07.17). In the final, she placed third with a Davidson Top-10 time and personal best time of 2:06.30. Anna Stringfield nabbed the final spot in the event final with a prelim time of 2:10.69.
Drew Onken earned three championship swims to lead the Wildcat men, advancing in the 200 backstroke (1:53.58), 200 breaststroke (2:08.75) and the 200 IM (1:54.62) and also swam onto the Davidson top performer list in the 500 freestyle with his prelim 4:40.28. He finished seventh in the 200 backstroke (152.52), second in the 200 breaststroke (204.82), and fourth in the 200 IM (153:78), bettering all of his personal bests.
Miller Williams nabbed the team's last spot in a final, advancing in the 100 fly with a time of 50.91.
The Wildcat women finished in third place with 684.5 points, behind the University of Pennsylvania (1,457) and host Kenyon College (1,330.5). Carnegie Mellon (367) and Johns Hopkins (121) rounded out the women's field.
Davidson's men finished in fourth place with 380.5 points, behind Kenyon (1,531), Penn (1,446.5) and Cargnie Mellon (483). Johns Hopkins finished in fifth with 163 points.
