DAVIDSON, N.C. — For the sixth straight season, the Davidson women's soccer team placed at least one player on the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) All-State team with senior Kyri Bye-Nagel (Hanau, Germany) and Amanda Flink (Richardson, Texas) representing the Wildcats on the 11-member team as announced by the NCCSIA today.
Bye-Nagel became the first Wildcat in program history to be named to the all-state team three times as she joined Hailey Beam of Charlotte as the lone returners from last season's squad. It's Flink's first nod on the team and she is the second Wildcat defender to earn the honors, joining Nancy Haskell who was named to the team in 2006.
The pair of Wildcats helped Davidson, which finished 12-10-1, reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history when they assisted the 'Cats to their fourth Southern Conference Tournament title.
Flink played a big part in pushing the Wildcats to the NCAA Tournament when she scored the game-winning goal in the SoCon Finals and then earned MVP honors for the tournament. She was apart of a Davidson defense, which included senior Sophie Funderburk (Wilmington, N.C.), sophomore Sophie Newsom (Atlanta, Ga.) and freshman Louise Timboe (Littleton, Colo.), who played 198 scoreless minutes at the league tournament and tallied two 1-0 shutout wins.
A second-team All-SoCon pick this year, Flink finished her junior campaign by matching her career-high with three goals. She started 22 of the 'Cats' 23 contests. Her other postseason honors have included SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week, Nov. 11, and being tabbed one of 27 players to earn Primetime Performers of the Week from CollegeSocccer360.com.
Bye-Nagel helped carry the Wildcats to a SoCon-best 34 goals on the year with a team-high eight and paced the team with 21 points overall. The senior striker had a career-best five assists in her final campaign, while matching Blakely Low (San Antonio, Texas) with three-game winning goals.
The senior was instrumental in Davidson's march to the SoCon Tournament, and eventually the NCAA Tournament, by scoring a team-best six goals and assisting on two others for 14 points during the month of October that saw the Wildcats go 7-1-1, including a 5-0-1 in their last six regular-season games to earn to final spot in the league tournament. The senior also netted two game winners in wins over Furman (1-0) and Chattanooga (4-2).
For her efforts, Bye-Nagel was named the SoCon Athlete of the Month in women's soccer. She then later garnered a spot on the All-SoCon First Team for the third time, becoming the fifth Wildcat in program history to garner first-team honors three times.
For her career, Bye-Nagel finished just outside the program's top-five in goals with 29, while assisting on nine other scores for 67 points in 78 games (59 starts).
Charlotte and UNC Greensboro had three players each named to the team to lead the way.
