DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Wildcat women's soccer squad was recently honored as a team for their academic excellence this past season as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
For the 15th consecutive year, Davidson earned the Women's College Team Academic Award from the NSCAA for the 2008-09 season. The program has won the award since the inception of it in 1996. The wildcats as a team had a 3.44 GPA and were one of 329 women's teams to earn the academic honor.
Davidson concluded its sixth straight winning season under the direction of head coach Greg Ashton and it was a memorable one. The Wildcats for the first time in program history advanced to the NCAA Tournament after capturing their fourth Southern Conference Tournament Title with a 1-0 double-overtime victory over College of Charleston in the finals. They drew second-seeded South Carolina, which hosted the first two rounds, in the tournament and saw their great season come to an end with a 4-0 defeat.
The 'Cats finished with an overall mark of 12-10-1 in 2009, and have hit the 10-win plateau in all six of coach Ashton's seasons.
