SPARTANBURG, S.C. – With the wrestling season set to start this weekend, Davidson sophomore David DeCamp was named to the 2009-10 Southern Conference Wrestling All-Conference Team, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
DeCamp, a native of Robbinsville, N.J., posted a 4-1 record in SoCon action during his rookie campaign last season, earning a place on the league's all-freshman team. Overall, he tied for the team lead with 39 points earned, in part to three pins and a 9-7 dual meet mark. DeCamp finished at 10-13 for the season. He had four two-match winning streaks throughout the season, including back-to-back victories to close the regular season. During the final month of the regular season, he went 4-1, with a pair of pins and recorded 18 points in his four wins.
As a team, Davidson was picked to finish sixth in the conference.
The Davidson wrestling season gets underway on Sunday when the 'Cats will travel to Blacksburg, Va. for the Hokie Open.
Davidson will also host the Southern Conference Wrestling Championships on March 6 at the Baker Sports Complex.
“We are extremely excited to be hosting the Southern Conference tournament here at Davidson for the first time since 1988,” said Davidson head coach Bob Patnesky. “Our setup at the Baker Sports Complex will make it a great environment for wrestling. We're looking forward to having our fans and alumni here supporting the Wildcats.”
