Callan Elswick Garners Academic Honors with a Nod on the CoSida All-District Team

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Junior midfielder Callan Elswick (Locust Grove, Va.), having a breakout third year, has also shined in the classroom and has been honored for her success this season by recently being named to the 2009 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III Third Team.
She became the sixth Wildcat to garner CoSIDA Academic honors and the first since both Bevin English and Nancy Haskell were named to the third team in 2007.Elswick was also one of three players from the Southern Conference to be named to either the first, second or third team this season.
The junior has played in 19 games this year, starting a career-best 16 of those contests. She has tallied career highs of two goals, three assists and seven points.
Elswick's first goal of the season helped lead Davidson to a 5-0 win at Francis Marion, Sept. 6. The midfielder has been a key member for the Wildcats' during their current six-game unbeaten streak, tallying two assists and a goal, which she netted in a 1-1 tie at Samford, Oct. 25. Her second assist of the year helped set up teammate Kyri Bye-Nagel (Hanau, Germany) for the game-winner in a 1-0 win over SoCon-rival Furman, Oct. 18.
The junior has also excelled in the classroom, holding a 3.90 GPA and majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies. This past summer Elswick was one of three women's soccer players to study aboard in other countries as she spent time in Zambia with a group from the college.
Elswick and the Wildcats will gear up for the SoCon Tournament this weekend when they play UNC Greensboro on Friday evening in Greensboro, N.C. Davidson earned the fourth seed with a win (2-1) in Sunday's regular season finale over Georgia Southern to be one four teams to advance to the semifinals and finals of the conference tournament, Nov. 6-8.
