DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson remained unbeaten to start the 2008 season with a 1-0 win over Mercer and a 1-1 tie against Kennesaw State this past weekend at the LQ Cup.
The Matchup
The Wildcats play its second in-season tournament when it hosts the adidas Classic this Friday and Sunday. Visiting the classic will be Lehigh, Richmond and College of Charleston with Davidson playing Lehigh on Friday, Sept. 5 and then close out the tournament with a 3 p.m. contest against Richmond on Sunday.
The All-Time Series
Davidson has faced Richmond twice in its 19-year history and will be seeking its first win in the series. The last meeting took place in 1998 when the Wildcats dropped a 2-0 road contest. Lehigh and the 'Cats have never faced each other.
Scouting the Wildcats
Davidson remained ranked in the NSCAA/adidas Southeast Regional poll (10th), while also sitting in 15th place in the Soccer Buzz Southeast Regional poll ... with her goal on Friday night vs. Mercer, junior Kyri Bye-Nagel has now scored nine times in her past nine games dating back to last year ... Bye-Nagel was honored with the Southern Conference's first Player of the Week award, Sept. 2 ... the award was the third in her Wildcat career ... under coach head coach Greg Ashton, the 'Cats are sporting a 4-4-2 record when playing in-season tournaments during his tenure at Davidson ... Davidson pushed its unbeaten streak when playing on the road or at a neutral site to nine games after going 1-0-1 this past weekend at the LQ Cup ... through the first three games, Davidson's defense has allowed just two goals and picked up its first shutout against Mercer.

Richmond has opened the season with three straight wins, including a 3-1 win this past weekend at Longwood ... the Spiders are currently ranked 6th in the Soccer Buzz Mid-Atlantic Regional poll ... the Spiders' 2-0 start was the first since 1997 and only the second time in program history ... after making the conference semifinals last season, Richmond was picked to finish sixth in the Atlantic 10 this year ... eight of the Spiders 11 starters return from a year ago ... Kelsey Rdzanek leads the team with two goals, while Sarah Hilt is tied with Rdzanek for top points honors with four (1 goal, 2 assists) ... the Spiders have out-shot their opponents, 32-15 ... defender Julia Bizer was named to the Soccer Buzz Magazine Elite Feet National Team of the Week, Aug. 28.
