DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Coming off a 3-0, midweek loss to Georgia Southern, the Davidson Wildcat volleyball team hopes to regroup and rebound against a pair of Southern Conference opponents this weekend.

The Wildcats will host newest SoCon member Samford at 2 p.m. Saturday and Chattanooga the following afternoon at 2 p.m.

Davidson enters the weekend with a 4-9 overall record and is 0-1 in the league, after Wednesday's 3-0 (25-21, 26-24, 25-15) loss to Georgia Southern.  Despite the outcome, senior middle blocker Kittery Neale had a solid match, posting 12 kills and a team-high seven digs, while hitting .333 (12-4-24). Sophomore outside hitter Sarabeth Peele had 10 kills, the only other player in double figures, and freshman Madison Benedict added nine kills and a block to the effort.

The newest SoCon member, Samford enters the first weekend of conference play with a league-best 11-2 overall record. The Bulldogs are led by two-time SoCon Player of the Week Ashley Adams, who has 162 kills (4.15/s), 12 blocks and 99 digs and is hitting a team-high .379 on the season. Kirstein Sosnowski and Sara Sears each have 106 kills, and setter Hillary Fountain directs the offense, with 528 assists. Fountain (22 aces) and Sarah Gardner (21) are serving threats, while Shelby Brandon leads the team with 151 digs. Sheriden Stanghor and Rachel Gadberry lead the Bulldogs on the block with 49 and 43 blocks, respectively.

Chattanooga enters the weekend with a 5-9 overall record and is yet to face a SoCon opponent. The Mocs went 1-2 last weekend at the UAB/Samford Invitational, with 0-3 losses to both Florida International (23-25, 17-25, 14-25) and Memphis (23-25, 18-25, 19-25) and a 3-1 win over Alabama A&M (26-24, 25-27, 25-20, 25-16). Chattanooga traveled to Kennesaw State Tuesday and posted a 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-12) shutout. Ashley Yeager and Jessica Scott lead the Mocs' attack, with 98 (2.23/s) and 90 (1.88/s)  kills, respectively. Cassie Conner and Michaela Huff, each with 203 assists, run the offense, while Lara Newberry (247 digs) captains the defense.
