DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson College women's soccer head coach Greg Ashton has announced today the hiring of Erin Lycan as assistant coach for the women's soccer program.
Lycan comes to Davidson after two years at Steven F. Austin as an assistant coach as well as serving as the interim head coach earlier this year. During her time at Steven F. Austin, the Ladyjacks compiled a 22-13-3 record, including a 13-5-2 mark last year which was the third-best season win total in SFA history and a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2007.
"I'm excited to have Erin join our staff here at Davidson," said Ashton, who is entering his fifth year at the helm of the women's soccer program. "Erin played in the ACC and understands what it takes to win a conference championship. Her understanding of the challenging academic environment and appreciation of a true student-athlete makes her a great fit for our program. With young goalkeepers in our program, it was essential to find someone who would be a great mentor to this group. I look forward to Erin's contribution to furthering the success of this program."
Prior to her time at Steven F. Austin, Lycan was part of the Region I Olympic Development Program staff and Tennessee Soccer Olympic Development Program in 2005-06. She was responsible for training and evaluating goalkeepers as well as assessing player potential.
"I'm looking forward to joining the Davidson athletic staff and continuing to work toward the tradition of excellence that Davidson student-athletes have established both on and off the field."
A graduate of Virginia, Lycan was a three-year letterwinner who played goalie for the Cavaliers and helped lead them to an Atlantic Coast Conference championship in 2004. She was a member of the Soccer Buzz Number One Recruiting Class in the Nation her freshman year in 2001. Lycan also excelled in the classroom, earning ACC Honor Roll honors all four years of her playing career.
Lycan, who was a co-captain on the 2004 championship team, was the women's soccer representative for the Student Athlete Advisory Council while at Virginia. She was also part of the Memphis Mercury, a semi-pro women's soccer league in the summer of 2002.
A 2005 graduate of University of Virginia, Lycan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology.
