
23 Wildcats Honored With Spring All-Conference Academic Excellence

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Southern Conference announced that 23 student-athletes from Davidson College representing six different sports have been named to the Academic All-Conference team for the 2008 spring season. A total of 243 student-athletes, representing all Southern Conference institutions, were named to the team.
The 243 student-athletes averaged a 3.54 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average entering the spring season and have competed in at least one-half of their team's competitions during the spring.
The Wildcat baseball team boasted seven recipients of the award, the most of any Davidson spring sports teams. The men's and women's outdoor track & field teams was next with four representatives each, while the men's tennis team (3), the women's tennis team (2) and golf team (2) rounded out the spring sports.
This is the sixth year that the Southern Conference has named an all-academic team by season.
The league's women's outdoor track and field teams placed 62 student-athletes on the academic team while 37 baseball players and 36 men's outdoor track and field athletes were honored. Western Carolina led the way among SoCon schools with 34 student-athletes recognized, followed by Appalachian State (28), Elon (26), Georgia Southern (25) and Furman (24).
