Jones Breaks School Record in Javelin at Irwin Belk Invitational

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Senior Beaux Jones set a new school record with a winning throw in the javelin, on senior day as the Wildcat men's track and field team hosted the Irwin Belk Invitational Saturday afternoon.
Jones broke his own record, set last week in Chapel Hill, with a throw of 194 feet 10 inches (59.39 meters).
Junior Will Funderburg won the shot put event with a throw of 51 feet 1 inch (15.57 meters) and placed second in the discus with a throw of 139 feet 8 inches (42.57 meters).
Sophomore Peter Bruton won the 1500 meters with a time of 3:58.49, followed immediately by junior teammate Alex Hoyt, who finished with a time of 4:00.24.
Freshman Melaku Teka and senior Brad Troxell finished second and third in the 800 meters with times of 1:56.15 and 1:56.25, respectively, while junior Kwame Som-Pimpong finished fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 11.45.
The Wildcat team of freshman Bryce Jones, Som-Pimpong, freshman Will Ames and freshman Ethan Dunn won the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 44.76.
The Wildcats will now gear up for the Southern Conference championships on the campus of Western Carolina in Cullowhee this weekend.
