CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Senior Beaux Jones set a school record in the javelin with a runner-up finish, as the Wildcat men's track and field team competed at the Tony Waldrop Invitational on the campus of the University of North Carolina this weekend.
Jones finished second in the javelin throw with a mark of 186 feet 5 inches (56.83 meters), besting the record previously held by Dan Dearing (184 ft. 6 inches; 56.18 meters), dating back to 1997.
Junior Will Funderburg finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 50 feet 6 3/4 inches (15.41 meters). Classmate Kwame Som-Pimpong placed fourth in the triple jump, with a mark of 46 feet (14.02 meters).
In the 1500 meters, junior Alex Hoyt finished seventh (4:00.59) and freshman Peter Bruton was 11th (4:02.43). Freshman Greg Marcil placed 14th in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:42.09.
The Wildcat men's track team will return to action this weekend, as they host the Irwin Belk Invitational on Sat. April 19.
