CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Davidson sophomore Ben Altman placed second, while senior Trebor Clavette and junior Sam O'Hair were third at the SoCon Wrestling Championships Saturday afternoon.
As a team, the Wildcats placed sixth, 1.5 points behind fifth-place VMI. Chattanooga was first, followed by UNC Greensboro, Appalachian State and The Citadel.
Altman received a bye into the semifinals at 125 pounds and defeated Shane Celorrio of Appalachian State 11-6 in the semifinals. But two-time NCAA qualifier Javier Maldonado of Chattanooga posted a 15-4 major decision over Altman in the finals.
Third-seeded O'Hair posted a 16-0 technical fall in the quarterfinals at 184 pounds but suffered a 7-6 setback in the semifinals. He defeated Curtis Moore of VMI 9-0 in the consolation semifinals and posted a 10-0 victory over Jeremy Cannon of UNC Greensboro for third.
Second-seeded Clavette got a bye into the semifinals where he was pinned by Neal Martin of Appalachian State. Clavette got a 6-2 decision in the consolation semifinals and pinned Mikal McKee of UNCG to take third place.
