Former Davidson pitcher Brian Akin '04 threw a perfect inning of relief and struck out a batter in his spring training debut for the Los Angeles Dodgers, a 5-3 victory over Washington March 4.
Akin was drafted in the 14th round by the Dodgers in 2004, and Tuesday's game was his first appearance of any kind with the big club.
He lettered four years for the Wildcats and ranks ninth in career ERA (3.79) and strikeouts (170). In his senior year, Akin went 8-3 on the mound and struck out 95 in 101 innings of work.
He posted a 3.30 ERA that season and threw two complete games en route to earning second-team All-SoCon honors.
