Davidson M. Tennis Earns 6-1 Win over JMU In Non-Conference Action

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson men's tennis team took five of the six singles matches and cruised to its second straight win, and sixth in the past seven matches, with a 6-1 win over James Madison in Hilton Head, S.C. on Tuesday afternoon.
Davidson saw its record improve to 8-3 and made it two in a row against the Dukes, who fell to 4-6 on the season. The Wildcats defeated JMU by the same score last season at home.
Senior Flaviu Simihaian and junior Ethan Jaffee led the way with wins at No. 1 and No. 2, while teaming up to score an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles. The duo helped Davidson earn the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead in the team points.
Simihaian evened his singles mark to 5-5 with a two-set win over Jesse Tarr at No. 1, and Jaffee ran his singles record to 5-6 with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 2.
Freshman Walker Lyons and sophomore Sam Burns teamed up to score their sixth win at No. 3 doubles, an 8-3 victory over the Dukes' Yaroslav Voznenko and Robinson, and then each earned straight set wins at No. 5 and 4 singles.
Walker picked up his seventh win of the season, second best on the team, while Burns improved to 6-4 overall.
Finally, junior Scott Myers ran his winning streak in singles play to two straight, while winning his eighth match in the past nine, with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles. Myers has a team-high nine singles wins as he sits at 9-2 on the year.
Davidson is off until the 20th of March when it hosts Wofford in Southern Conference action at 2:30 p.m.
