Saari Shoots 73 to Pace Wildcats in 1st Day of Furman Invite

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Junior Michael Saari hit a 73 in his first round of golf to pace the Davidson golf team to a 13th place showing in the first day of the 39th annual Furman Invitational on Friday afternoon at the par 72, 6,800-yard Furman University Golf Course.
Davidson as a team shot a 303 for the day, placing it just ahead of North Florida (305) and just three strokes behind East Carolina. Chattanooga's Jonathan Hodge paced the field with an opening round 69 to give the Mocs a three-stroke lead
Saari carded a 38 on the front nine, but came back with a 35 to finish in 17th place out of 132 golfers. He is tied with 13 other golfers for 17th place with his one over par.
Freshman Bobby Urso is next on the Wildcat leaderboard with a 75 (36-39) to rank him tied for 42nd place.
Second round action is slated to get underway at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning with final round play slated for 8 a.m. on Sunday.
Admission to the Furman Intercollegiate is free and live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com.
