DAVIDSON, N.C. –– Three different players for Davidson recorded a hat trick, including a natural one turned in by senior Emily Diefendorf, and its defense did the rest, shutting out Long Island for over 30 minutes of action in earning a 13-5 victory at Richardson Stadium on Friday afternoon in women's lacrosse.
Davidson ran its overall mark to 2-2 and scored its first home win of the season. The Blackbirds opened their 2008 campaign at 0-1.

Fellow senior Sarah Walter, who twice hooked up with Diefendorf during her three-goal stretch for assists, tallied a team-best five points on three goals and two assists.
Sophomore Haley Cook rounded out the hat-trick trio with three of her own, the third time this year she has netted three goals in a game, to push her season total 11.
Cook gave the Wildcats the lead for good when she fired in her second goal of the contest off a free position shot at the 20:02 mark in the first half for a 2-1 lead.
