HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Davidson opened with a 317 before carding a 309 in the second round to sit 14th after 36 holes of the third annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate men's golf tournament hosted by Francis Marion University. The 54-hole event is being played on the 6,828-yard, par 72 Wexford Plantation layout.
Freshman Robert Mayo led the way for the Wildcats on day one with rounds of 78 and 75. The Austin, Texas, native is currently tied for 35th at eight-over par.
Other Davidson competitors include Bobby Urso (T-44th / 154), Christopher Rollins (T-63rd / 159), David Fowler (T-65th / 160) and Michael Saari (T-74th / 164).
Furman carded team scores of 290 and 296 Monday and leads second-place Elon (298-292) by four strokes.
Elon senior Jimmy Lytle leads the individual standings after firing consecutive rounds of 3-under-par 69. His 138 total leads Elon teammate Jayson Judy (73-69=142) by four strokes.
The final round of the two-day event will be begin Tuesday morning.
