DAVIDSON, N.C. - After turning in a 5-0 week, including his first career tournament victory, sophomore Vitaly Radsky was named the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week today by the conference office.
Radsky took home the title in the 141-pound weight class at the Davidson Open this past Saturday, which was held at the Knobloch Tennis Center on Davidson's campus, by going undefeated in five matches, with a pair of those wins coming by a pin.
The Worthington, Ohio native's two pins included one in 2:49 against his opponent in the finals to wrap up the title, with the first one coming in the opening-round match, taking down his opponent in 2:34. He then added an 11-1 major decision in the quarterfinals, followed by back-to-back decisions to reach the final match.
He won his five matches by a combined score of 23-6 in the three that went the distance. The sophomore now sports a 7-5 overall record on the year, with a team-high three pins, and is tied for the second-most wins on the squad.
This is the first SoCon weekly award for a Wildcat wrestler since Marcus Boyd was named Wrestler of the Week on Jan. 10, 2007. Radsky becomes just the fifth Conference Wrestler of the Week honoree in Davidson wrestling history
Radsky will look to continue his winning streak on Dec. 16 when he and his teammates head to Doylestown, Pa. to compete in a tri-meet with Delaware State and Delaware Valley College, taking on both schools in back-to-back dual matches.
