DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson football seniors Peter Bakke, Kirk Konert and Myles Potter have been named first-team ESPN The Magazine All-District III in a vote conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The trio will advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America Honors.
Bakke has started all eight games this season and ranks sixth in the Pioneer Football League with 59 tackles. The inside linebacker has recorded five tackles for loss, an interception, a forced fumble and a pass breakup. He has started 18 consecutive games and has 177 career tackles.
One of the 'Cats' most versatile players, Konert was named to the team as a punter. He averages 36.7 yards a punt and has placed 10 inside the opponents' 20-yard line. Konert also ranks fourth in the PFL in receptions with 40 and third in the league in yards with 501. He needs one receiving yard to crack the 1,000 mark for his career.
Potter is a repeat selection on the academic all-district team, and the receiver has 22 catches for 285 yards and two touchdowns this season. His 80-yard touchdown reception against Jacksonville Sept. 27, was the longest for the Wildcats since 2003. He has played in 38 career contests and recorded 73 receptions for 936 yards and five TDs. Potter was named to the FCS Athletic Director's Association Academic All-Star team and first-team Academic All-PFL in 2007.
The Wildcats finish their season with a three-game homestand, beginning with a 1 p.m. contest against San Diego Saturday.
