CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Sophomore outside hitter Sarabeth Peele recorded 21 kills and 11 digs to lead the Davidson Wildcat volleyball team past The Citadel Bulldogs, 3-1 (29-27, 16-25, 25-20, 25-11) in a Southern Conference matchup at McAlister Field House Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 6-11 overall and 2-3 in the conference. The Citadel drops to 6-10 overall and remains winless in the league at 0-4.

Freshman Christine Perzinski added nine kills and 11 digs, while hitting .474 in the match, and sophomore Jennifer Chamblee had a match-high 25 digs and three aces to lead the defensive effort. Sophomore setter Hayley Lawson tallied 39 assists and contributed nine digs and three blocks as well.

For the Bulldogs, Blaine McAllister and Jessica Maas each had 11 kills. Setter Emily Hill had 30 assists, and Rachel Sanders paced the Citadel defense with 16 digs.

The two traded possessions to start the match, until Anna Bradbury served four straight scores to give the 'Cats a 16-10 lead. Davidson held the margin, leading 20-14, but the Bulldogs tied the score at 23-23 with a 9-3 run. Kathryn Johnson aced her serve to put the Bulldogs ahead 24-23, but missed her next to even the score at 24. The 'Cats got their first set-point try at 26-25, but Maas kept the Bulldogs in the game. Perzinski gave the Wildcats another advantage, but Shannon Frain evened the score again, 27-27. Davidson finally took the set, 29-27, on back-to-back hitting errors from the Bulldogs.

In the second set, the Bulldogs jumped out to an early 8-3 lead, before Rachel Sanders served seven straight points to extend it to 15-3. Trailing 17-7, Peele posted four straight putaways, but the 'Cats could not overcome the margin, dropping the set by a score of 25-16.

The 'Cats got down to open the third set as well, trailing 10-5 after a five-point serve from Alyssa Holum, but put together a 10-2 run, including Chamblee's three aces, to take the lead, 15-12. The Citadel would get within a point, 15-14, but the Wildcats closed with a 10-6 run to secure the 25-20 win to go ahead 2-1 in the match.

In the final set, the Wildcats opened a convincing 12-5 lead, and Bradbury served out the game with a 6-0 run to deliver the 25-11 win for the match.

The Wildcats will return to Belk Arena and step out of conference play, hosting the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs at 7 p.m. Tuesday before a pair of SoCon road matches next weekend.
