STATESBORO, Ga. -- With a 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-23) win, the Georgia Southern Eagles ended the Davidson Wildcat volleyball team's four match winning streak in SoCon action Tuesday night at Hanner Fieldhouse.

The 'Cats entered the match riding a four-match winning streak, including a pair of sweeps over conference opponents this weekend, but fall to 9-12 overall and an even 4-4 in the league. Extending its winning streak to four matches, Georgia Southern improves to an even 11-11 overall and 4-4 in conference play.

Sophomore outside hitter Sarabeth Peele led the 'Cats with 14 kills, while freshman Madison Benedict and senior Kittery Neale each had six. Sophomore setter Hayley Lawson tallied 32 assists, while classmate Jennifer Chamblee led the defense with 11 digs.

The Eagles had a pair of hitters in double-digits, as Laura Claybaugh and Bethany Sanford totaled 13 and 11 kills, respectively. Mae Chabra ran the offense with 39 assists, while Sanford and Hayli Ketner each had 11 digs.

The Wildcats won the first point of the match and led mid-way through the first game, until Michelle Uzoh gave the Eagles a 9-8 edge. Georgia Southern went on top for good on a Wildcat service error, 10-9, and took control of the game with a 4-0 run to push their lead to 13-9. The Eagles opened a 22-14 lead with a 9-4 run, winning by a margin of 25-17.

Once again, Davidson would win the first point of the set and keep pace early in the game, but the Eagles would once again take control. With the score knotted at 5-5, Parker Small gave Georgia Southern possession and the Eagles took advantage, winning the next pair to open a slight 8-5 lead. A 5-2 run led to a 13-8 lead for the Eagles, who were able to fight off a late-set rally. Down 16-12, the Wildcats put together a 5-2 run to pull within one, 18-17, but the Eagles held the lead by winning two straight points and went on to take a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-21 win.

Freshman Erin Lupfer served five straight points to open the third set and give the Wildcats a critical 5-0 lead. The Eagles, though, won the next four points and got the game tied at 6-6 on a Wildcat error. The teams traded points for the next several possessions, with the 'Cats even leading by a pair, 10-8, on an Eagle error and a kill by freshman Christine Perzinski. Georgia Southern answered the attack again, taking the lead, 11-10, with a 3-0 run. The Eagles would lead by no more than three for the rest of the way, with Davidson getting as close as 21-20 late in the game, and eventually go on to win the match with a narrow 25-23 win.

Davidson will return to Belk Arena on Friday, Oct. 17, hosting UNC Greensboro at 5:30 p.m. "A Night with the 'Cats," the men's and women's basketball kickoff event will immediately follow the conclusion of the match.
